Happy Birthday, America

Some 231 years ago on July 4, 1776 Congress approved  unanimously the Declaration of Independence of the thirteen united States of America.

In that declaration are the following statements which provide solid evidence of the respect for God then held by the founding fathers:

"When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to disolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

"We, therefore. the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies publish and declare ----"

"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."

The Declaration of Independence was signed by John Hancock, President of the Continential Congress and by representatives from the following thirteen states:
New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island; Connecticut; New York; New Jersey; Pensylvania; Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.


How many of these same states would have their present day US Senators sign such recognition and respect for "Nature's God"; "Their Creator" "The Supreme Judge" and " the protection of Divine Providence"?

Kennedy?  Kerry? Reed? Dodd? Clinton? Shumer? Lautenberg? Biden? Mikulski? Spector?


The erosion in respect for the Creator in the 231 years since July 4, 1776 is staggering.  

It has been accepted by Americans through gradualism!   The unaleinable right to Life left the USA in 1973 via the Supreme Court in the Roe and Doe cases.

Embryonic human beings are sacrificed for the sake of commercialized research.  Many present senators not content with research wherein the donor is killed without his or her agreement even seek federal funding of this research.  Utilitarian and commercialized research on humans in contradiction to the Nuremberg medical research code has replaced the protection of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by these human beings.

Today, in memory of this fearless declaration of independence, we sing the great lyrics of America the Beautiful, written by Katharine Lee Bates:

"Oh beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!"

We even sing the verse:

 "America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From Sea to shining sea!"

We should really reflect upon her words:

"America! America!
God mend thine every flaw
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law."

Perhaps if we work at it, we can return again to sing with pride:

"Thine alabaster cities gleam" and
"Till selfish gain no longer stain
the banner of the free"


 Remember the greatness of America in the past and think about the legacy we leave after these 231 years.
